The Nestlé R&D Center located in the Loire Valley in Tours (France), is part of the Nestlé Institute of Agricultural Sciences within the Nestlé Research Organization whose main center is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Plant Science team builds knowledge on strategic crops with the aim of developing new plant materials in order to deliver quality products through better and sustainable farming

Context:

The position contributes to new, elite coffee varieties for targeted Nestlé market segments through the identification, leverage and exploitation of relevant methodologies, technology platforms and genetic resources. The goal is to breed new varieties that significantly improve upon the performance of the main varieties currently available in the main sourcing origins and countries in accordance with Nestlé standards, strategy and CSR commitments.

The role:

R&D STRATEGY:

  • Active role in the definition of the coffee breeding objectives, in cooperation with the business, the markets and the PMO team.

  • Establish innovative short- (3 to 5 years) and long-term (15 to 20 years) breeding objectives.

  • Establish strategic internal and external partnerships to address key challenges in plant breeding related fields,

  • Identify, explore and integrate trends and emerging technology platforms; - Evaluate and support the transfer of new varietiesby Co-SAD; - Manage all or parts of relevant research project's activities

DELIVER RESULTS:

  • Use relevant methodologies, techniques, resources, and germplasm to breed new elite, uniform and stable varieties including their concomittant mid- and log-term breeding populations.

  • Plan, organize and drive Research to achieve the breeding objectives, Lead relevant project streams.

  • Implement and support all necessary steps to ensure the deployment of the varieties such as seed/plantlets; - Increase, homogeneity and performance control and file registration and protection applications;

  • Contributes to the development of new varieties entering the breeding pipeline or advanced material in collaboration with Nias Research Operations and Co-SAD.

  • Guide and actively contribute expertise to other research streams and stream leaders. Ensure on-time availability of quality project deliverables. Ensure the reporting and the communication of the results to the stakeholders.

  • Provide appropriate service/support to relevant stakeholders.

Profile:

  • Master or PhD level with major in Plant Science, Has a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in plant breeding, Experience in deploying genomic selection / predictive breeding in a plant breeding program will be a plus.

  • Has a track record in project management with successful transfer into business

  • Has gained deep knowledge in at least one area of expertise.

  • Has worked in a matrix-like structure.

  • Has demonstrated the courage and ability to take decisions and solve problems.

  • Has proven communication skills
